A Tiger 1 late version is displayed by the road, close to the little town of Vimoutiers. This tank miraclously escaped from the Falaise gap and was driving north-east to the Seine. But after the town of Vimoutiers the road climbs steeply which was fatal for this tank and some other German tanks abandoned in this area. The Tiger was blown up in the middle of the road by its crew, probably hoping to delay the US advance.

Le Tiger / The Tiger
Bienvenue en Normandie
The entrance hall of a house sets the tone: at first glance, it reflects the spirit of the place. At the Domaine de Pasiphae, this large ceramic bird keeps the door. The other particularity of this entry, the siding ... in crushed oyster shells, to remind that the sea is not very far!

Marie Harel
At the beginning was Normandy...
...its region and its famous cows, but for most of us the history of camembert began with a French farmer: Marie Harel. In the middle of the French Revolution (1791, if we trust the oral tradition), she gave birth to a delicious cheese, which was named according to the name of the town she was living in:In fact, cheeses were produced in Camembert since at least 1680. For example, Thomas Corneille (the brother of the famous French writer) wrote in 1708 in his "General Geographic and Historical Dictionary", that every Monday on the Vimoutiers market, you could buy excellent cheeses from the Camembert area. Marie Harel had probably "just" improved the recipe, helped by a non-juring priest (Abbey Bonvoust) that she was hiding since 1790, and who gave her a secret about the preparation of cheese. La salle à manger et son Kachelofen
Do you know what a Kachelofen is ? It is a traditional stove in the Alsatian dialect. Here is ours,in the dining room. But it's in the cast iron stove that we make now the fire. Thus, the winter has its charm too in Vimoutiers !
