Le Tiger / The Tiger

Vimoutiers mérite une place à part dans l’histoire des chars allemands en Normandie. On doit, en effet, à la commune et à un de ses habitants d’avoir préservé un des vestiges de cette aventure, en l’espèce un des quelques « TIGER » type E engagés. C’est d’ailleurs à la connaissance générale le seul char allemand qui subsiste en Normandie. (la suite sur Pays du Camembert)

A Tiger 1 late version is displayed by the road, close to the little town of Vimoutiers. This tank miraclously escaped from the Falaise gap and was driving north-east to the Seine. But after the town of Vimoutiers the road climbs steeply which was fatal for this tank and some other German tanks abandoned in this area.The Tiger was blown up in the middle of the road by its crew, probably hoping to delay the US advance.
